Meadowbrook entered my life in the year 2010. I first heard about The Meadowbrook Collaborative (TMC) by being on the board of the St. Louis Park Community Foundation (SLPCF). Meadowbrook was one of the organizations we gave grants to each year at our annual Give Back Day.

At the event held at The Park Tavern on December of 2010, a whole group of adorable kids ranging in age and diversity, made their presence to take part in the fun activities. I was told that these were the Meadowbrook kids that live in the Meadowbrook neighborhood. These same kids take part in a Targeted Services program called The Meadowbrook Collaborative.

The Meadowbrook Collaborative was started in 1993 to deliver a curriculum combining academic support with engaging fun and structured activities, promoting youth development. Today the program serves approximately 25 kids each year, ranging in grades K-8.

Officially TMC entered my life December of 2011. It was the SLPCF’s Give Back Day event. I introduced myself to Linda Trummer, Director of the program. I expressed interest in volunteering my time. I started volunteering with the kids in February of 2012. Not only do I give of myself twice a week, I also work on their website (www.meadowbrookcollaborative.org) as well as take part on TMC’s Marketing and Fundraising committee.

My time volunteering has been absolutely priceless in many ways. Knowing that I make a difference in these children’s lives just by being there is amazing. Also being able to work alongside and learn from Linda Trummer, Director of the program. Finally, as I grew up and graduated from SLP, I have a great sense of Park Pride.

As I continue to give back to my community, I can’t help think of what Meadowbrook gives back to me. THE MEADOWBROOK KIDS CUTE  FACES SMILING BACK AT ME.
